Our Story

The Unity Bridge Project was founded by Giselle Chan, a dedicated high school student whose involvement in volunteering within New York City's Lower East Side sparked a deep-rooted commitment to supporting immigrant communities. Spending her weekends leading English classes in Chinatown for Chinese immigrants, Giselle utilized her multilingual skills to help ESL students improve their literacy in a more realistic setting. Through these experiences, she formed meaningful connections with her ESL students, witnessing firsthand the challenges they faced and the resilience they demonstrated in navigating life in a new country. Maintaining ongoing relationships with her students, Giselle felt a strong desire to extend her impact beyond the classroom.

Motivated by her experiences and driven by a desire to make a positive change, she embarked on a journey to create a project that would amplify awareness of the immigrant experience and provide tangible support to underserved communities. After weeks of brainstorming and contemplation, the Unity Bridge Project was born.

Rooted in Giselle's belief in the power of education, advocacy, and community engagement, this initiative aims to foster understanding, bridge gaps, and promote unity across diverse cultural landscapes. By raising awareness about the challenges immigrants face and fundraising for charities that directly support their needs, the Unity Bridge Project seeks to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those striving to build brighter futures in the United States.
